HEROES

The reason we ride

Text Box: These are the heroes that we ride in memory of. The top pictures are the 2007 officers that will be placed on the wall for Texas. We do not have the room to put all of the heroes from Texas on this page, but do provide links to great websites that list all of them and give details of their heroic lives. The top few pictures are showcased because they were co-workers and friends of our association members. Each year on the Unity Tour the team members wear bracelets with the officers name on them that are given to the families at the candle light vigil. The team also carries teddy bears on their bikes to give to the children of the officers. Heroes live forever.

2007

Those we have rode for and those who have touched our lives in past years. years.

Trooper Kurt Knapp was killed in a crash the first day we arrived in New Jersey for our first ride. It made the ride’s purpose so much more real to us . TXWOJ lead the ride  one of the days to honor Kurt.

Trooper Eduardo Chavez’s brothers rode in the 2007 ride to honor their brother. They led over 1000 riders into the memorial in May.

Deputy Barry Hill’s wife is a chapter president of COPS and became a big help and support to us in 2007. Deputy Hill was shot while searching for suspects in a wooded area in 2000.

Don Wass captured Hill’s killers in Washington County. He was killed in a motorcycle crash in 2006.

B.J. Zachery was killed on January 1, 2006 in the neighboring county of our vice-president whom was asked to assistant in the investigation.  B.J.’s aunt has become a supporter to the  association and we were able to meet and visit with a lot of the family at the memorial.  We love being able to keep in contact with the families and watch the kids grow.

Matt Myrick was killed on January 20, 2006 while responding to a crash.  Every July a 5K run is held in his honor to raise money for COPS. Bo Speed has run both years and each year it grows. We are able to see his family each year which is such a blessing.

Abel, Arlie, and Scott were all killed by one man during a domestic dispute call on September 8,2007. Bo was one of the responders to the stand-off that occurred afterwards, and was involved in the events that followed in helping the officers affected by the tragedy.  This really reinforced his passion for honoring the fallen and being there for the families.
